The airport is around 22 kms away from the Central Business District of Melbourne, so its not very easy to travel across, though there are a number of options you can use to reach the city center from the airport. Skybus

Skybus is a shuttle service that runs between the Melbourne Airport and the Coach Terminal of Southern Cross Station, Spencer Street and the Central Business District of the city. You can pick up a Skybus 24/7 from the Virgin Australia terminal, or Qantas/Jetstar domestic terminal of the Melbourne airport. Its ticket desks are available at T1 and T3. You can purchase the tickets from here, or electronically from the Skybus driver. You can reach the CBD within 20 minutes, and it costs $18 for one-way, and $30 for a return trip. A Skybus departs from the airport every 10 minutes, except from 1am to 4am, when a Skybus leaves every 30 minutes.

Hire a car

There are numerous car rental operators at and around the Melbourne Airport. You can hire a car to travel independently from the airport to the Melbourne city. Driving routes from the airport to the city are pretty straightforward and well posted with signs.

Public Transport Victoria

This is a cheaper, but slower option to reach the Melbourne city from the airport. You can buy a Myki card from the Skybus terminal, which costs $3.50 on weekends and $7 on weekdays. Reach the platform end at T1, catch bus number 901, the sign of which should read ‘Frankston’. Switch to a train at Broadmeadows Station, and reach the city center.

Take a taxi

If you have a booking in a hotel, the quickest way to get from Melbourne Airport to the city is to take a taxi and directly reach your destination. There are designated ranks of taxi at the airport, that you can find on the ground floor outside T1, and also between T2 and T3.

Rent a limo

If you are looking for a luxurious way to arrive in the Melbourne city, why not rent a limo? A limo rental may range from $80 to $150, depending on the vehicle you are hiring and the destination to which you are going to. This can be a pricier option, but if you want to arrive somewhere in style, you can give yourself a treat by renting a luxurious limo.
